I found this outstanding painting while looking for a different image of Ruth Fisher. It perfectly encaptulates the mood I was after. I love Ruth so much, and I am so drawn to the Fishers’ kitchen. Maybe it came from growing up with a Mother whose domestic centre was her kitchen, but I always felt like Ruth’s kitchen was the safest place in her home, which made the scene where she learns of Nathaniel’s death that much more heartbreaking.
